Re: Over There

this talk about the stripe on the Lionel J being the wrong shade of red reminds me of when the Lionel Pennsy GG1 had die parting seams on the roof. they sure got upset over that one.

to set things correct, the model engine was a C&O class T-1. it was not a Pennsy J.
not that that changes anything as its still a fantasy paint scheme.

Re: Remove clearcoat from Brass Model

There are as many methods of painting brass as there are recipes at a country pie contest. Some remove the lacquer, some don’t. some use primer and some don’t. there are many methods of cleaning and preparing the brass surface. For example, bead blasting using aluminum oxide. Using vinegar, cleaning...

Re: Remove clearcoat from Brass Model

I had an NJ custom brass (aka custom trash) model that I tried to remove the clear coating. it was hell trying to get this off. I tried all kinds of powerful strippers and still there was coating residue left on the model. All I could do at that point was to keep applying, soaking and scrubbing unti...

Re: Missouri Pacific PA,s from SSM

I too have the MoPac #8019 PA2 and removed the Ow5 wheel sets during the process of converting to P:48 wheel sets. Scott's original wheel sets measure 0.872" where the wheel meets the flange, making that portion a scale 42" in diameter. If the prototype measures elsewhere for diameter, pl...
