Re: Mongrel Mogul, Suburban, and maybe other Lobaugh Oddities

Bob,

I would be curious just to see the entire circle of layout. Then a video of the numerous pieces on the shelves. Your transformer set up is similar to mine.

I feel your pain about mosquitoes. Will send a link to a device that an artist friend who works in an open air studio swears by.

Re: Mongrel Mogul, Suburban, and maybe other Lobaugh Oddities

Jim, Thank you for posting the link for the YouTube video. That thing runs great. Reviewed some of the other videos on Bob’# YouTube channel. Some great stuff! I particularly like the running of the articulated steam and the RI pacific. On the Pacific one can really see the benefit of hiding the gea...

Re: Bay State DL-109 Restoration Project

Jim, The other plus about your models is that they have the single headlight. Something about the duel headlight detracts IMO. Except maybe the Rock Island version. One of my NH has the McGinnis paint scheme. That’s the one with orange, black and white scheme like so many of their EP-5s. The previou...

Re: Bay State DL-109 Restoration Project

Jim, This is a great topic IMO. Some really love the Alco PA, but I prefer the DL109. Something about its lines suggests Art Deco. Plus Otto Kuhler designed it. His designs were on the MR Hiawatha streamline pieces. Truly a renaissance man making numerous industrial paintings. He retired to NM and c...

Re: Field wound K&D open frame motors

Jim and Bob,
Thanks for the very helpful discussion. My K&D did not come with a bridge. I almost wire them to run in the forward direction. The brushes look fine. I surmise that it needs to be disassembled, cleaned up and relubed. This is all info that I will never forget.

Nifty! One wonders if Lobaugh used the wagon top boiler from their 4-4-0.

Re: Field wound K&D open frame motors

Bob,
Thanks for the great info. While the old stuff is less efficient, it may be more robust. This is very useful info!

Field wound K&D open frame motors

I would be interested in hearing about people’s experience with field wound open frame motors often found on the older steam from Lobaugh, Scale Craft, Hines, etc. Usually I swap them out for a Pittman, but occasionally I like to keep it stock. Yes, I know they are current hungry like 2 amps and the...

Bob, Interesting stuff. My post in the traction section of the OGR forum regarding whether Q-Car was still in business was deleted without explanation-WTH or What The H…Their moderator really has too much time on his hands. Really appreciate the update on the state of the art of rattle cans. Given t...

Re: Doorstop four axle Diesels

Now we really have gotten off topic from bronze diesels to cars. In a way they are related; bronze locos hold up like classic cars. Bob, I am very envious of your past experience with the Mustang fastback. That was one great looking car. Very much of a 60s style car. The Ford I-6 was a good engine a...

Re: Doorstop four axle Diesels

Wow! I thought I was one of the few people who hated current auto styling, and I’m in my late 50s. What is even more irritating is that they are hard to fix or at least hard to work on yourself. Everything is so over engineered with a bunch of options that I will never use. My old ‘69 Karmann Gaia i...

Re: Ten Wheeler

Bob,
Both the “lost” ten wheeler and the painted 2348 look fantastic. Is that Dupli-color semigloss black on the 2348? Looks like you are using a hefty U joint which I have not recognized before. Presumably both are Pittman 8000 powered with the rare earth magnet type?

Re: C&NW and Erie Steam Power

Bob, I consider myself a moderate, and every time I order I order from Amazon, I feel like I need to take a shower. So the disdain for Amazon is not just held by “liberal pinko[s]” Jim’s and your Consolidations look pretty nice. BTW, there is a variation of the Diamond logo where “Erie” uses a Serif...

Re: Ten Wheeler

Bob, First off both the painted and unpainted renditions look spectacular. I would not get too hung up on driver diameter; it looks proportional and accurate to my eye. Also like the spoked pilot wheels. Weathering on the painted version is also just right. If you need a bell, I can spare a couple. ...

Re: Lobaugh Challengers

Shipping from Trainz can be variable. Sometimes it’s stellar and other times terrible. I have found some stunning bargains from them but as of late prices seem too high. BT always does a good job packing, but their shipping cost seems expensive.i surmise they make some profit from shipping. Similarl...
