Re: Seen in Print

Ah Scrapple,

I remember riding north to NYC from Florida via the train. I ordered breakfast with Scrapple rather than cheese grits. Does ONCE count?

Re: Tractor Thread

Tung oil! That brings back memories of my youth. Tung trees supposedly grow only along the 30th degree latitude. A young lady in my school almost died from eating a Tung fruit, her family moved to Tallahassee from the North and thought she was eating an orange. Eventually warning signs were posted a...

Re: Tractor Thread

Sarge, "My least favourite US airport back in the '80s and 90s was Denver". I love both Stapleton and Denver International, it means that I am home. A lasting memory of our one trip to Kenya was landing in a C-47 on a dirt strip, followed by 2 more. All 3 then lined up at the edge of the s...

Re: Hobo Jungle

Well written and fun. A scene from one of the Miss Marple TV shows was filmed in an alley just off Oxford St in London, and very near my office. It was a scene where the Beautiful lady criminal attempts to escape by racing her MG but crashes into a concrete post and dies instantly. What a waste of a...

Re: Hobo Jungle

Sarge,

Thanks, I have the same memories of the porters, waiters and attendants I met whilst travelling on trains in the 1940's - 1960's. "And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free".

The laws of the birth country also must be taken into consideration. For instance, my Grandson was born in Prague, Czech Republic, to his US Father and Thai Mother. So he has joint US and Thai citizenship, but not Czech citizenship.

Almost all the Canadien Geese that wintered in Denver have flown north. A few live here all year long.

My Father also started in the coal mines at Herrin IL at 16. He was an orphan and worked his way through high school. Three months after graduating from high school, he received a scholarship to a university and never looked back.
